How to get started with a digital tachograph
With the entry of the Czech Republic into the European Union, we as its members are obliged to comply with its legal provisions and regulations. These legal provisions also result from the obligation to use digital tachographs in newly registered vehicles over 3.5 t from 1.5.2006. Vehicles with an older registration date may continue to use analog tachographs. First of all, of course, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with all the legislative requirements of the EU and with the legislation of the country in which the vehicle is registered. The legislation of the given country, as follows from the regulation, may regulate the use of DT according to EU conditions and local customs and laws.
How does the digital tachograph work?
Operating a digital tachograph is essentially the same as operating an analog tachograph. The only difference is that instead of paper discs, the driver inserts his driver's card into the tachograph.
Of course, knowledge of DT operators and knowledge of legal requirements (safety breaks, etc.) is assumed both on the part of the driver and on the part of the owner of the transport company. Keep in mind one fundamental thing: with the introduction of DT, the approach to evaluating information from tachographs changes absolutely. The good news is that it will facilitate the evaluation of data from tachographs (more readable, faster), the "bad" news is that it places higher demands on users' knowledge and their ability to learn new technologies. Every new DT user must expect increased demands on his knowledge, and this applies to both DT operator knowledge and PC user knowledge.
What will I need as a vehicle operator?
You will only need one computer with software for archiving and evaluating data from DT and a means of downloading data from DT. The tachographs of all companies are compatible with each other, so you only need one software and one download tool for all types.
You will also need a BUSINESS CARD (often mistakenly called a VEHICLE CARD). You can have an unlimited number of business cards. The card is used to lock your data in DT and to allow their download from DT to the download key. The DT system card (all types) will be issued by the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic (www.mdcr.cz).
